90 degree angles were the flavor of the day for Gianluca’s Minecraft party! I had roughly 3 weeks to teach myself all there is to know about Minecraft, and nearly turned into an addict while doing so! Pixelated visuals, creepers, ghasts, TNT, Steve, brewing potions, endermans and the nether portal were my daily vocabulary as I dreamt this party into being, and Gianluca’s sheer excitement when he saw his party table, made all the hard work and effort so worthwhile!! As any party normally starts with backdrop designs, I started with these, the one for the main table being a simple redbrick wall, two jumbo lime Creeper balloons either side, a balloon arch of ghast faces, and two massive red TNT drums. Next I created a d
rink station for the kids, Gianluca’s brewing station , since in minecraft we outwit our opponents with potions of swiftness, night vision, healing etc. The party favor table was my personal favourite , with large 3D dirt, bricks and cement boxes forming the backdrop, a stunning felt Steve character for the birthday boy himself, and such cool felt masks, felt diamond swords and little rubik cubes for each kiddie to take home. I designed 3 games for the children to play: Pin the tail on the pig; a nerf game where you had to stand on the “pressure plate” and shoot at felt minecraft blocks with a nerf gun, each felt block with a score assigned to it, highest score wins! Lastly and probably my favourite, a massive scavenger hunt: each child had an inventory attached to their party pack with items to collect in the garden, as they collected them they would pop it into their party bag: slime, bouncing balls, gold, emeralds, creeper poop, melon, monster spawn eggs and more! The one child to find the ever-elusive Almighty Diamond, would win a prize too! Lots of fun! The menu for the dessert table was also loads of fun to brainstorm: potatoes (pringles), pudding dirt cups, water jellies, gold apples (candy apples), ghast breath (candy floss), x-box remote biscuits, cave spiders (black lollipops), chocolate cupcakes topped with grass frosting and striking toppers, little ‘carrot’ cake pops and little red heart ‘life force’ chocolates to name but a few! Now that the party is over, I’m suffering slightly from Minecraft-withdrawals, I never knew that it was so “hip to be square!”
